please dont throw it all away.

background to the book.
everywhere i go i notice shapes of hearts on the floor...heart-shaped pebbles, heart-shaped paint splashes , heart-shaped sheep-poo...
one night, in a world of too much alcohol, my girlfriend got upset and shouted at me that i was 'breaking her heart'. being a bit crap, and not knowing what to say, i looked down at the floor. and by her feet i saw a broken red elastic band lying in the shape of a heart. this is how this book began. it is a book full of little stories about how someone's heart got broken, and the photo of their heart where it fell.

design concept for the book.
it's hard to admit to other people when someone has broken our heart. we pretend we are fine. we go out, get drunk, fill up our diaries...we try and hide the fact that our heart is broken. this reflects why each story and photo in the book are at first hidden. the pages are folded, and totally empty on the outside. only when you carefully perforate the pages do you find out the story. each page in the book, at first glance, just looks blank – just like how you feel when someone breaks your heart – blank and empty.
